Sunday Mass At Sandusky St. Mary's Church with cousins.

Sunday at Sandusky, Ohio
I attended Sunday evening mass with my three cousins at their church named St. Mary's Catholic Church when I returned to Ohio for a brief visit and an aunt's funeral. The church recently had been painted and updated. I had remarked to my cousin Larry (in the green jacket) how beautiful the art glass windows above the altar were. Larry was equally excited to show me all of the preserved art of the church. If you click on the top photo you will see a likeness. The woodcarver who carved the beautiful carvings at the top of the support posts in the church added his face on the post at the right front of the church. It was quite unique. Apparently he was not a young man as the likeness showed a bald man.

I wondered if the position of placement had anything to do with the bible quote that God said at the end of the earth he will gather the faithful on the right and the damned will be on the left. Something to ponder but we will never know his thoughts.

The westerly setting sun over Lake Erie cast its light through the three windows above the altar with an illumination bringing to life the features of the saints in the glass. These art glass windows are priceless today and equaled in the beauty.

Following mass we headed to the favorite pizza parlor in Sandusky for dinner and one last visit. We later drove over to visit with the fourth member of the family, cousin Jim who is having health problems at this time and is house bound.

We always had good times together as children growing up and fondly remembered the Sunday afternoons spent playing on our grandparents farm. The third photo is, left to right, Richard, Marnie, and Larry Wechter. The fourth photo is Jim Wechter and in the back row, myself, wife Joan, and granddaughter Jessie. Those are the four children of my Uncle Tony and Aunt Margaret Wechter.
