ROSEMARY GIMLET
Makes 1 drink.
(from Drinking French by David Lebovitz)
Rosemary Syrup:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 T. coarsely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
Gimlet:
2 oz. Gin (I use Tanqueray, David uses Citadelle)
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. rosemary syrup
Small sprig of rosemary or slice of lime for garnish
1. To make the syrup, heat water, sugar and rosemary together in a small saucepan, stirring occasionally, until mixture is hot and sugar is dissolved. Cool completely and then strain into a small jar. Refrigerate until ready to use.
2. To make the Gimlet, fill a shaker half full of ice. Add the Gin, lime juice and rosemary syrup. Shake until very cold. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a sprig of rosemary or a slice of lime.
