 Best White Bread

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

  • 2 3/4 cup bread flour
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/3 cup sugar
    tablespoons vegetable oil
    1 tablespoon butter
    1/2 cup milk
    1/2 cup water

    Proof yeast in 1/2 cup water with 1/2 teaspoon sugar.  Combine dry ingredients in large bowl.  Make a well and add the remainder of ingredients.  When well mixed, place dough on a lightly floured board and knead for 5 minutes until satiny smooth. 

    Place in an oiled bowl and let rise until doubled in bulk. Knead again.  

    Place in prepared loaf pans and allow to rise until doubled in bulk.  Bake at 400*F  25 minutes until when tapped it sounds hollow.
