Summer Blackberry Red Wine Sangria
Ingredients:
4 cups fresh blackberries, divided use
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
2 bottles red wine (CA Zinfandel, Merlot...)
1 cup brandy
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 cup sliced oranges, quartered
1/2 cup sliced lemons, quartered
Directions
1. To make the blackberry syrup, place 2 cups blackberries, sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Pour through a strainer pressing gently on the berries. Chill the Blackberry Syrup.
2. In a large pitcher, combine the blackberry syrup, wine, brandy, lemon juice, remaining 2 cup blackberries, the strawberries, oranges and lemons. Cover and refrigerate 4 to 24 hours. Serve over ice. Serves 12
